Customers who buy cars at certain dealerships throughout the state will now be able to conduct their Bureau of Motor Vehicles paperwork without going to a BMV branch.
Jordan Motors, a dealership in Mishawaka, St. Joseph County, will be the first to offer some BMV services under Gov. Mitch Daniels' new plan. Gov. Daniels and BMV Commissioner Ron Stiver made the announcement Thursday.
The idea is to have some car dealerships as a "one-stop shop" where customers can obtain title and registration at the time of the car sale.
The eight-week pilot program started with Jordon Motors in Mishawaka in early May and has attracted thirteen other dealerships around the state so far. More than 500 successful customer transactions have been completed at the dealerships during the pilot period.
Four additional dealerships are expected to sign on by the end of June, with a total of 50 expected by year end.
Of the 14 dealerships that have signed contracts for pilot program, nine are currently operational, and five others are scheduled for installation in the coming weeks.
Indiana joins 25 other states offering titling and registration.

This application is used by Boys & Girls clubs throughout the State of Indiana to track information related to program and electronically submits the information to Indiana Family and Social Services for payment for these services.

OuterLimits Technologies, with a partnership with Indecon, Inc., is working with the BMV to allow customers the ability to register, title and/or renew thier vehicle plates at dealerships throughout Indiana.
The program will pilot starting May 2007 and will go statewide in July 2007.
